Cancer cells multiply very quickly. Chemotherapy eliminates cells that reproduce at very fast rates. Coincidentally, hair grows very fast too. The cells for hair growth are killed off too along with the cancer cells.

    This is poorly worded.

Chemo drugs are targeted at cells that replicate quickly. Cancer cells replicate quickly but other body cells do as well. Bones, hair, and mucous membranes (especially those in your mouth, esophagus and stomach) all replicate quickly. Hence the immune system suppression (bone marrow), hair loss and vomiting.

because in chemotherapy the radiation kills other cells besides the cancer cells like hair so that’s why it affects hair growth

  • Jay L says:

Chemotherapy drugs are powerful medications that attack rapidly growing cancer cells. Unfortunately, these drugs also attack other rapidly growing cells in your body — including those in your hair roots.

  • paul r says:

because chemotherapy in many cases has a “shotgun” effect on the body. Healthy cells are killed along with cancer cells. The cells that produce hair are very easily affected and die off as well. The hope is the over active cancer cells will take the medicine quicker and die off before healthy cell death becomes too high.

  • Megaman! says:

Marijuana will inhibit cancer cell growth and doesn’t affect hair growth in any significant way.
